| Christmas is over and it is back to work for the majority of Britain! Many Catering companies suffered an increase in cancellations during the end of December – us included. We all suffered from extreme weather conditions with over 6 inches of snow in some areas which affected many of the Christmas Parties booked in venues unreachable because of the roads. Because of this, we have plenty of parties rescheduled for January. I’m sure there are many employees across the country still waiting for their works Christmas Do. The weather has affected more than just catering companies across Britain. In Gloucestershire alone, main roads have been closed, important rugby and football games have been cancelled, Golf Clubs have remained empty across the whole festive period and school closures have been rife. On the up side, Christmas is a very popular time to get engaged! We have had a dramatic increase in enquiries for wedding receptions for 2011 / 2012 so we are all hard at work preparing bespoke menus for excited brides across the county. Hog Roasts have become more popular than ever with many couples requesting them for their wedding breakfasts. The rustic wedding is something of a craze at the moment. I expect it will quieten down towards the end of January just in time for another boom after Valentine’s Day! As a local company, we understand the importance of local, home grown menus which are reasonable priced and we hope to maintain our strong relationships with both suppliers and customers alike. I’m sure we wouldn’t have as many repeat bookings as we do if we increased our prices year on year regardless of the financial market. Lastly, a new hotel has recently opened its doors to the public in Surrey. This is definitely a good sign considering the awful state of our economy. It took only a few months for the building to be built and I am pleased to say that there is plenty of parking space, a great restaurant and bar and it will hopefully encourage more business men and women to spend a little more time in our county. Spitting Pig Surrey are hoping to forge strong relationships with this hotel with the view to being their main suppliers when it comes to hog roasts and BBQ’s. It would be great to have a regular source of work from them especially as they are so local.
